Bullying....Do you recognize it?

Growing up in today’s society can be tough. Balancing a fast paced lifestyle, studying for exams, and a social life can be hard. The daily life of a teenager consists of studying, Facebook, and video games.

What we do not see is the impact being done while at school. Imagine walking through the hallways and being stopped by someone and pushed, or sworn at. This happens on a daily basis for some kids and they have no way to respond to it.  Most victims of bullying do not report it because they feel embarrassed.

The best thing we can do to help stop bullying is be aware. There are three main types of bullying. They are: Physical, Verbal/Emotional, and Cyber. Physical is the hitting, pushing, or grabbing of someone. Verbal or emotional bullying is the most common overlooked and can consist of threats or insults. The third and most prevalent in today’s society is Cyber bullying. This is where someone can receive messages, threats or even be tricked into believing they are talking to someone they aren’t. The best way for us to be able to help someone with bullying is to watch for it and speak up. Here at Karate International we take a strong stand against bullying. If anyone is having issues with bullying please feel free to come and talk to us and we will be more then glad to help you. Together we can make a difference and start to help people who have gone or are going through this painful experience.

Next time I’ll discuss different methods for dealing with each type of bullying discussed.

Feel free to email me with questions or comments.

Thank you,
Craig Wharem
